ABOUT THE SHOW:

In 2017, crushing national debt and debilitating unemployment has caused the US to sell Florida to China for $5 trillion. The South Florida Christian Militia is leading an insurgency in the Everglades to oust the Chinese Army. How far will they go to keep the States United? This darkly comedic, high-octane political allegory will be a West Coast Premiere.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

All characters (with the exception of Deng Zedong) are open ethnicity. We are strongly seeking diversity in our casting.

Bets - FEMALE/18 to 29 (to play 17)

Requirements: Dialect - Rural Florida (Everglades, Collier County) and the ability to convincingly portray a very pregnant young woman required. Herbal cigarettes will likely by used by this character.

A pregnant 17-year old girl who lives on the periphery of the militia's camp. Although uneducated, she is extremely smart. Frequently underestimated, but street smart beyond her years.

Kell Cartwright - FEMALE/33 to 43

Requirements: Dialect - Georgia. Large emotional range and ability to nail dark comedy.

The wife of Gare Cartwright and the leader of the South Florida Christian Militia Women's auxilary. A woman trying to find a way to save herself and her husband from a dire situation. Tough as nails on the outside, she is struggling internally.

Maria "Mei Mei" Burrus - FEMALE/30 to 42

Requirements: No dialect other than standard American required but the ability to pick up a small amount of Mandarin during the rehearsal process will be essential. Herbal cigarettes will likely by used by this character.

American-born attache to Zedong. She has relinquished her American citizenship to hold this position. Seemingly cold and all business, until a desperate situation exposes her vulnerability, empathy, and maternal instincts. She's losing faith in the people she works for.

Gare Cartwright - MALE/33 to 43

Requirements: Dialect - Georgia and the ability to convincingly embody a career soldier is mandatory.

The military leader of the South Florida Christian Militia. He was a decorated veteran in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Having found his purpose in war, the interpersonal pressures of running the camp are beginning to break him down. There's a bit of a weariness to him, trying to hold so much together.

Deng Zedong - MALE/32 to 45, Chinese

Requirements: Dialect - Chinese and the ability to speak Mandarin (or convincingly pick it up quickly). Herbal cigarettes will likely by used by this character.

A Chinese-born, American-educated corporate capitalist who has been appointed Pro-Consul of the An Lushan province (formerly known as Florida). A seemingly decadent man who appears out of his depth, once challenged, he finds his fierceness. He is akin to the substitute teacher who sneaks out to his car to get high but acts like he's morally pure to the people he's in charge of.

Florian Hale - MALE/25 to 35

Requirements: Dialect - Rural Florida (Everglades, Collier County). Physical prowess will be required as the actor will need to physically portray someone who has been gravely injured and not recovered fully (limp and cane).

The religious leader of the South Florida Christian Militia. He survived the attack that killed his father Bay Ray, and inherited his position. He has been promoted beyond his capabilities and struggles with the weight of his position. A man on the edge who is unpredictable.
