ABOUT THE SHOW: WEST COAST PREMIERE! Ester and Val are understudies for a production of Waiting for Godot. They are committed to art, and frustrated by anonymity. They understand their purpose, but not the reasons they stay. They accept their fate, but question each other's motives, all while waiting for "him" to appear... A "gleefully absurd" (Time Out New York) backstage farce packed with profound insight, existential dread, and shameless punchlines, Waiting for Waiting for Godot is the Beckett companion you didn't know you needed.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
[ESTER] 35+ years old, all ethnicities male. A large man of veteran age (35+), a classically trained actor quite seriously devoted to his art, struggles with the lack of recognition for his great talent, but remains committed to the noble poverty of the true artiste. Note from Casting: We'd love to see actors experienced with physical/non-verbal comedy!
[VAL] 21+ (age open; diverse talent highly encouraged to submit).
More slender to Ester's largeness, has a gentle naivete about his face. Less experienced than Ester, pure of heart and genuine in his
love of the theatre and respect for Ester. Note from Casting: We'd love to
see actors experienced with physical/non-verbal comedy!
[LAURA] 21+ (age open), all ethnicities female. The
Assistant Stage Manager: a woman, age open, good at her job and tired of
Ester and Val.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Please prepare the appropriate sides for the character you will be reading for. Those auditioning for Val & Ester will be asked to prep the associated physical activity (Ester attempting to put on an obviously ill-fitting vest; Val trying to open a sugar packet). Those auditioning for Val and Ester will also be asked to stay for a period no loner than 1 hour within the audition time-frame, as the director will conduct a group session geared to movement. Please bring a headshot and resume, and arrive about 5 to 10 minutes prior to your audition to complete a conflict/questionnaire form.
