ABOUT THE SHOW: WEST COAST PREMIERE! The St. Catherine's drama club is struggling to put up its first school play - Sophocles' "Antigone." As if staging this tragedy in an all-girls Catholic school isn't challenging enough, the cast's beloved director ends up betraying them in an unforgivable way - and it's almost opening night! The cast must figure out the right course of action, all while rehearsing a classic play about impossibly difficult choices. What is the right thing to do? And must the show go on?
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
All roles are open to any ethnicity.
[GRETA] 18 to 22 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY 15 CREDIBLY; female-identifying. A sophomore, GRETA plays Ismene in Antigone. She's thoughtful, loyal, the conscience of the play. Must choose between right and wrong.
[MARILYN] 18 to 24 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY 16 CREDIBLY; female-identifying. A sophomore, Marilyn plays the titular role of Antigone in St. Catherine's production. Sweet, trusting, Marilyn falls for her teacher, Mr. Reed. Love is blind... or is it?
[SUSAN] 18 to 25 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY 18 CREDIBLY; female-identifying. Susan plays CREON in St. Catherine's production of Antigone, and acts as the unofficial stage manager. The Head Girl of St. Catherine's, President of the Drama Club, and a natural leader. Happy to bend rules for a good cause.
[TAMSIN] 18 to 24 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY 17 CREDIBLY; female-identifying. Plays Haemon in St. Catherine's production of Antigone. A transfer student with a mysterious past. Dry, jaded, tried not to care. 90s-Grunge-meets-Granola. Questionably Queer.
[ANNA] 18 to 24 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY 15 CREDIBLY; female-identifying. Anna plays Tiresias in St. Catherine's production of Antigone. Femme, fashionable, takes things very literally. Loves her be-dazzler and rhinestones (what else screams Greek tragedy? Ha!).
[LILY] 18 to 24 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY 16 CREDIBLY; female-identifying. Plays Antigone's GUARD and MESSENGER. A jock, expert gossip, and Anna's best friend.
[JAMIE / MR. REED] 40 to 48 years old, all ethnicities, TO PLAY MID-FORTIES CREDIBLY; male-identifying. Mr. Reed (Jamie) is the new Drama teacher for St. Catherine's, and the director of the school's production of Antigone. Smart, Charming, very good at what he does. Old family friend of Susan's parents. Loves teaching, but also loves getting what he wants, his way. International accents are welcome.
