ABOUT THE SHOW:

Sacred Fools' new production of Richard III seeks to bring the heart of this classic tale to the audience...quite literally. Ben Rock, director of Baal - which was named as one of L.A. Weekly head critic Steven Leigh Morris' "Favorite Things" in L.A. theater for 2010 - is committed to creating an "immersive" experience for the audience, making it a more visceral experience without losing focus on the simplicity of what makes Shakespeare great... his words. The result is a twisted, hacked, and reborn Richard III for 2012.

Our approach to casting for this production is wide-open and basically nothing much more than age and gender, and even gender may be flexible with certain roles. Actors are expected to have some familiarity with Shakespeare although extensive prior experience is not required. Ability to be comfortable with the language of Shakespeare is a must as is the ability to memorize large blocks of dialogue. No specific dialects or accents are required.  The show will be gounded and naturalistic.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

* A Shakespearian monologue NOT from RIII.  Be prepared to perform it once as prepared, and once as directed.
* For the desired role, a dialogue scene to be read with casting, as well as reading from sides (below).

We are planning to cast an understudy for Greg, however, we will not be auditioning specifically for an understudy.

Anne - FEMALE / 20 TO 30
We are looking for a relatively young (or young-looking) actress to play Anne as the age difference between her and Queen Elizabeth must be obvious.

Elizabeth - FEMALE / 30 TO 40
Widow of King Edward IV and mother of the two young princes.  Intelligent and fairly strong-willed.

Margaret / Duchess of York - FEMALE / 40 TO 50
Widow of the dead King Henry VI / Widowed mother of Richard, Clarence, and King Edward. Both are experienced ladies of the court.

Buckingham / Hastings / King Edward / Brakenbury / Clarence - MALE OR FEMALE / 40 TO 50
Gender may be flexible with these traditionally male roles.

Stanely / Catesby / Tyrrell / Ratcliffe / Richmond / Grey / Dorset / Rivers - MALE / 20 TO 35
